Express Rail Link
The opening of Malaysia’s new international airport, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), at the cusp of the millennium called for a new high-speed rail connection between the airport and city centre. YTL Construction undertook the construction and completion of the Express Rail Link (ERL) train stations, as well as the civil works portion of Malaysia’s first high-speed rail service connecting KLIA to the KL city centre.
The ERL comprises a 57 km standard gauge rail line with a top design speed of 176 km/h and a total journey time of only 28 minutes; the fastest and cheapest connection between KLIA and the KL city centre. The ERL remains South East Asia’s fastest high-speed rail in operation.

Express Rail Link – Extension
The Express Rail Link (ERL) has greatly transformed Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s transit modality. Riding on the success of the ERL, a proposal for a 2.15 km standard gauge track extension from KLIA to KLIA2 was also awarded to YTL Construction for expertise in integrating train and airport systems, trackwork and infrastructure works. The Express Rail Link extension will serve to create a dynamic yet logical transition for the millions of international and domestic travellers passing through Kuala Lumpur each year.
